RESIDENTS of Tan Jetty at Weld Quay will soon enjoy a covered futsal court, providing a more comfortable and weather-protected space for community activities.
Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Lim Hui Ying, who is also the Tanjong MP, said construction of the roof for the futsal court has begun and is expected to be fully completed by July 12.
“The cost of installing the roof for the futsal court is RM506,688.
“Of this amount, RM400,000 is contributed by my office, while the remaining RM106,688 is funded by the Penang Island City Council,” Lim told a press conference at Tan Jetty in Weld Quay, today.
Also present were Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng, MBPP architect Muhammad Hilmi Mohamed Pauzi, Village Community Management Council (MPKK) Pengkalan Kota chairman Chan Kim Keat, and Pengkalan City Futsal Club manager Abdullah Abdul Rahman.
Lim added that, besides the roof installation, the project scope includes soil investigation, site utility mapping, ground strengthening works, construction of column foundations, erection of the roof framework, roof finishing, and electrical wiring works.
“I believe this upgrading project is a capital investment that will enhance the community’s quality of life and serve as a long-term investment,” she said.
Meanwhile, Wong expressed his appreciation to Lim and MBPP for the meaningful support.
“I also hope the local community, especially the youth, will continue to be empowered through active participation in sports with the availability of this covered futsal court.
“Futsal courts located near the coastline are rare, making this facility geographically unique.
“At times, this court is not only a recreational space for residents but also a venue for various community activities.
“Therefore, the installation of the roof is much needed to provide better shade and make the area more suitable for a wider range of activities, particularly in empowering local youth,” he said.
