THE Penang government will hold a special meeting with all the relevant agencies to seek a better solution for the bad condition of several roads at Diamond Valley Industrial Park in Batu Maung.

State Entrepreneurial Development, Trade and Industry Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain said the affected roads are Lintang Beringin 8, Lintang Beringin 10, Lintang Beringin 11 and nearby alleys.

“All of these roads are riddled with huge potholes due to the heavy vehicles that frequently use the roads daily.

“The heavy vehicles mostly come from concrete batching plants in this area.

“As a result, the factories in here, mostly from small and medium-industry (SMI), suffered some discomfort such as dust and potholes when using the roads.

“And currently, we have received more than 30 reports from them (SMI factories) regarding this issue.

“Thus, we will hold a special meeting with all the relevant agencies such as Penang Island City Council (MBPP), Penang Development Corporation (PDC) and Public Works Department (JKR) to find a better solution,” said Abdul Halim, who is also the Batu Maung assemblyman, during his visit today.

According to Abdul Halim, resurfacing works would not be so effective to solve the roads’ condition there because heavy vehicles will still use the roads every day.

“For the past few years, JKR has conducted a few resurfacing works to fix the roads’ condition in the area but in the end, the problem keeps recurring.

“Thus, this time we will find an effective way to solve this problem once and for all.

“Among the suggestions that will be brought up in the meeting is an alternative road for heavy vehicles to use. We also plan to get all SMI’s in the area to contribute some funds for the resurfacing works and road repairs. After all, they are the ones who use the roads every day,” he added.
