EIGHT ‘Sidang Muda’ participants were allowed to physically observe the State Legislative Assembly sitting at the State Assembly building today, just days before the ‘Sidang Muda 2022’ is to be held at the same venue.

Penang Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said an application was submitted to Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang and 10 youth representatives were permitted to physically follow the State Legislative Assembly sitting.

“Two people were unable to attend, hence, we have eight youths who are present today.

“Those present are the participating youths in the Sidang Muda 2021 and 2022. Those who are unable to be physically present here are encouraged to follow the state assembly sitting via the Penang Legislative Assembly Facebook page.

“The eight participants who are present today will have to submit a report to Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) after the visit.

“The report must include the lessons that they have learned during their visit, suggestions, and comments, based on what they witnessed at the assembly sitting.

“We listen to our youths, and we take note of their ideas and opinion,” he said.

Thirty-five youths will be participating in the programme, where they will be taking up the respective ‘roles’ as the Chief Minister, state executive council members, backbenchers, and Opposition.

The ‘Sidang Muda 2022’ will comprise three sessions – debate session, winding up session, and debating the motion session.

“Each backbencher and Opposition members will be given three to five minutes to debate on pressing issues before the state executive council members deliver the winding-up speeches.
