TO support the needs of the elderly residents at the Silver Jubilee Home, the home is set to organise the ‘SJH Charity Food Fair’ this month. The fundraising event is scheduled to take place on May 17 at the home’s premises from 10 am to 3 pm.
The event is co-organised by the Lions Club of Georgetown.
According to the organising committee chairman, Datuk Seri Jerry Chan, the food fair will feature more than 65 stalls, along with several food trucks, offering a wide variety of local cuisine, home-cooked family delicacies, and fast food. He said that the event will cater to both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.
“In addition to food, there will be a nursery selling plants, flowers, and seedlings.
“The Silver Jubilee Home will also be having a sale of dry goods such as coffee, tea, noodles, biscuits and assortments of new clothes such as ladies blouses and children’s dresses sewn by the elderly residents.

“We are aiming to raise RM150,000 through ticket sales and donations for the Food Fair. The entrance booklet is priced at RM50 per booklet, and food items will be priced between RM5 and RM15 each,” he added.
The highlight of the event is ‘Sing for Charity,’ where visitors can perform on stage with a live band by donating RM20 per song as a gesture of support for the cause.
Chan shared that the Silver Jubilee Home has been operating for nearly 90 years and depends on donations and sponsorships to support its operations and provide care for its elderly residents.
“The home’s annual budget is around RM4 million, and currently, it has 116 elderly residents.
“The Silver Jubilee Home provides free shelter and care for senior citizens who have no one to look after them and for those facing financial difficulties,” Chan said.
Lions Club of Georgetown president Andrew Choong expressed hope that the partnership with the Silver Jubilee Home would continue, and said they are looking forward to organising a bigger charity event for the home next year.

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Chong Eng, one of the trustees of the Silver Jubilee Home, urged the local community to support the event and contribute to the well-being of the elderly residents.
“For the elderly residents living here, this is their home. We hope to make it a quality home, but we cannot do this alone,” said Chong Eng.
She expressed her gratitude to well-wishers for their continued support. In addition to regular donations, some kind-hearted individuals also contribute during festive seasons and birthdays.
The entrance to the Charity Food Fair will be through the main gate of the Silver Jubilee Home, located on Jalan Nipah.

Parking for visitors is available at the nearby Super Tanker Food Court parking lot, as well as within the premises of the home itself.
