AIR Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng has expressed deep concern over the recent 14% hike in electricity tariffs for non-domestic users, along with the added financial burden from new taxes under the expanded Sales and Service Tax (SST) and the 25% tariff imposed by the United States.
He said the combined impact of these measures would significantly strain both businesses and the public.
“This 14% increase will be a heavy burden, especially for businesses,” Lim said, adding that the government should introduce rising costs more gradually.
“These decisions come at a time when people are already struggling. If electricity rates must go up, do it in stages instead of one big jump,” he stressed.

Lim also urged the federal government to consider exempting more sectors or offering relief under the expanded SST framework.
On another note, he addressed public concerns regarding the government’s e-invoicing system. While welcoming the federal government’s decision to exempt non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and charities from issuing e-invoices, Lim said elected representatives from the unity government would be meeting with the relevant agencies next week to exchange views and raise public concerns about the current economic situation.
Meanwhile, Lim said repair work on a clogged underground drain at Lorong Sempadan has been completed following quick action from his office.
“A total of RM8,880 was allocated for the repair works, which began on June 17 and were completed by July 2.
“It was not an easy task as it involved tedious underground work. We hope the repairs will bring relief to nearby residents,” he said.
