Special movie screening for frontliners

NEARLY 200 frontliners from various departments joined the special movie screening of the local movie, ‘Juang’, at the GSC Gurney Plaza yesterday evening (Sept 7).

The movie screening was specially arranged by the office of state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee (Petace) chairman Yeoh Soon Hin.

“This movie portrays the sacrifice and hardships faced by our frontliners during the Covid-19 crisis.

“We should always be thankful to the frontliners for their tireless dedication during critical times.

“They have contributed enormously to the community and nation.

“So, today our office has invited our beloved frontliners to this special screening,” Yeoh said during his speech before the movie screening.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak were the chief guests at the event.

Also present were ‘Juang’ chief director and executive producer Matt Lai, as well as actor and producer Jack Lim.

Lai said the movie is set to hit the cinemas nationwide (100 screens) starting from Sept 8.

“This movie is not an ordinary movie as it has a ‘soul’ in it.

“And it has brought the whole industry together to do something significant for the country as it involves more than 500 movie artistes and technicians.

“We wanted to bring out the crucial moments faced by the frontliners during the movement control order (MCO) period to the big screen.

“After two and half years, the movie is finally here,” Lai said.

The movie is directed by Kabir Bhatia, Aziz M. Osman, Yusry Abdul Halim, Matt Lai and Osman Ali.

The frontliners from various departments such as the state Health Department, police, RELA, Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Penang, fire brigade, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) George Town and several private hospitals were also presented with certificates of appreciation at the event.
