State govt recognises contributions of religious NGOs and local churches – CM

CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow who was the guest of honour at the opening ceremony of the 13th Assembly of Asian Baptist Women’s Union (ABWU) held at Georgetown Baptist Church today stated that issues which will be discussed in the congregation are also among the main concerns of the state government.

”l am happy that this event highlights the relevant and contemporary topics such as education and poverty, caring for the environment, disaster response and human trafficking which are also key concerns of the Penang state government.

“The state government has long recognised the important contributions of religious NGOs and local churches and is always open to partner and collaborate closely with these organisations to solve some of our pressing social issues.

“I hope that during the next 3 days all of you will be encouraged, strengthened, empowered, transformed and mobilised to do good works for God and for our fellow humankind across Asia,” said Chow.

Some 700 delegates from 19 countries in Asia are participating in this event.

“It is a great honour to celebrate with all of you the opening ceremony of the 13th ABWU which is also held in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the ABWU.

“On this happy occasion I wish ABWU a continued success in providing an effective platform for up and coming Baptist women leaders in Asia to realise their potential to render their services to God and their respective local communities,” added Chow.
