Chow acknowledged the immense burden faced by young cancer patients and their families, not only financially but also emotionally and mentally.

“Understanding these challenges, the state government will continue collaborating with various non-governmental organisations (NGOs), such as the Childhood Cancer Association Northern Region (Foccan), to assist children battling cancer,” he said.

Chow added that the collaboration includes raising public awareness about the importance of early detection and timely treatment through various programmes and cancer awareness campaigns.

He made this remark during the iftar dinner with children diagnosed with cancer at Balai Rakyat Jalan Patani today.

Also present at the event were Batu Uban assemblyman Kumaresan Arumugam, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk A. Rajendran, MBPP councillor Benji Ang Ming Quan, Foccan president Maznah Tayib and Persatuan Muslim Tanjung Pulau Pinang (Pelita) president Nasir Mohideen.

Chow also commended Foccan for its continuous efforts in assisting childhood cancer patients, regardless of race or religion.

“I have been informed that, to date, more than 800 children with cancer have received holistic support from Foccan, including financial aid, medical equipment, and essential personal items.

“Taking this opportunity, I urge well-wishers and companies that wish to contribute to this noble cause to reach out to Foccan.

“Strengthening collaboration between the government, private agencies, and industry players will enhance our collective support for these children,” he added.

Chow also announced RM10,000 special allocation to Foccan to continue organise its activities for childhood cancer patients in the northern region.

Maznah thanked Chow for the financial assistance.

She expressed hope that the gathering would uplift the spirits of these young warriors as they bravely fight against the disease.

Maznah also extended her gratitude to the children and their parents for attending the iftar event.

During the event, each child received grocery items alongside asnaf (eligible tithe recipients) in preparation for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.
