THE major upgrading works of the swimming pool complex at the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) Sports and Recreational Complex in Jalan Betek, Bukit Mertajam are currently ahead of schedule and expected to be completed by April next year.
Penang Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen said the project, which began in February this year, has now reached 43% completion.

“The upgrading works are progressing smoothly. I would like to thank MBSP for funding this RM3.6 million project.

“This is the first major refurbishment of the swimming pool complex since its inception. Once completed, the new facility will meet Olympic standards,” Gooi said during a site visit today.

Also present during the visit were MBSP councillors Bernard Cheen Goon Hooi and Ng Wai Leong.
Gooi added that the timing of the upgrade is ideal, given the growing popularity of swimming in Penang.
“Swimming is a popular sport in the state, and we have seen commendable achievements both at the state and national levels.
“Through this initiative, we aim not only to provide quality recreational facilities for the public, but also to support the development of competitive swimming in Penang.
“The upgraded complex also will serve as a training ground for our state athletes,” he said.
