“There is strong historical and cultural links between Penang and Thailand, and the warm bonds of family and friendship between the Thais and Penangites,” said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow when he launched the Thai Festival 2018 at Gurney Paragon Mall on Aug 24.

The three-day festival from August 24 to 26 will showcase many tasty Thai cuisine and goods to the people of Penang.

Chow said the sweet and spicy Tomyam is clearly one of the local favourites, an achievement given the fact that Penangites pride themselves for their gastronomic taste buds as well as Penang’s reputation as a highly competitive heaven.

For three days, Penangites will be able to experience and enjoy a miniature replica of Thailand right here on the island without the hassle of crossing the immigration and border checks.

In thanking the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Penang for having organised the Thai Festival for many years, Chow is adamant that the Thai Festival 2018 will be a wonderful event.

“I hope this event will continue to be something Penangites will always look forward to,” he said.

Also present were Thai Acting Consul-General Sukoom Somprasonk, Japanese Consul-General Shinichiro Kanoya as well as exco members Yeoh Soon Hin and Datuk Halim Hussain.
