THE gigantic Autobots Optimus Prime and Bumblebee that guarded the Esplanade from July 19 until Sept 17 may have left our shores but the joy they gave to more than 300,000 visitors withstood the test of time and cannot be more evident when the results for the photography contest featuring them were announced on Oct 12.

The ‘Asia’s 1st Transformers Street Art’ photography contest was organized by Penang Global Tourism (PGT) and attracted a total 270 entries, out of which seven were chosen winners.

The contest was open to all Malaysians aged 18 and above and ran from Aug 3 to Sept 30, with contestants required to submit up to five photos of the two Autobots including their captions.

The 270 entries gained a total 9,700 votes.

The first and second prize winners obtained 2,313 and 1,968 votes respectively. The first two prizes were won by P’ng Kim Chung and Sim Loon while the five consolation prizes went to Ong Chin Keet, Tham Weng San, Ummi Kalsom Shamsuddin, Lim Chen Li and Sri Helena Haris.

The entries for the contest featured mainly the Autobots and the creative colourful street art murals painted on the containers by the artistic students of One Academy.

All seven prize winners received exclusive merchandise from Hasbro valued at RM700 for first prize, RM500 for second and RM200 for the consolation prizes.

PGT chief executive officer Ooi Chok Yan presented the prizes to the winners.

Also present was Ricky Ong, managing director of i2 Promotions Sdn Bhd, the Transformers licensee.
