LOCAL waste management company ‘Shan Poornam Metals Sdn Bhd’ has bolstered the state government’s green initiative, the ‘Smart Reuse Project’, by contributing a total of 90 refurbished laptops to support digital inclusivity.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow praised Shan Poornam for its strong commitment to corporate social responsibility, commending the company’s efforts to turn electronic waste into tools for educational empowerment.

“I still remember my visit to your factory last year and was genuinely impressed by how you were breathing new life into old, unused devices.

“Through the ‘Smart Reuse Project’, we do not have to simply discard devices, but we can reuse them,” he said during the handover ceremony held at the Batu Kawan parliamentary constituency service centre today.

Chow noted that Shan Poornam is a renowned company with 30 years of experience in the field of waste management, including recycling and e-waste handling.

“The company consistently fulfils its corporate responsibility. We hope this contribution will benefit all the recipients.

The laptops will be distributed through the Batu Kawan parliamentary constituency service centre. Thank you to Shan Poornam for walking the talk and being a true partner in making Penang greener and better,” he added.

At the ceremony, the first batch of 20 laptops was officially handed over to support students in need, aligning with Penang’s ongoing push towards digital inclusivity.

The ‘Smart Reuse Project’ aims to promote sustainability and close the digital gap in the state – one device at a time.
