THE Associate Officer Association of the Penang Malaysian Civil Defence Force (Penang APM) has contributed 100 sets of personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Civil Defence Emergency Response Team (CDERT) squad in the Paya Terubong state constituency today.

Its association deputy president Felix Chuah Gim said they hoped that with the contribution, it could help to minimise the risk of CDERT volunteers from contracting the Covid-19 virus when they are doing the sanitation works in the constituency.

He handed the PPE suits, costing RM1,500, to Paya Terubong assemblyman Yeoh Soon Hin, who is also state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman, in a simple ceremony at Komtar today.

“As we know, Paya Terubong is a place with high density population. So, it is important to keep them equipped with proper gear when doing the sanitation works. After all, they are also considered as frontliners,” said Chuah.

Yeoh thanked the association for the care and concern shown to the CDERT squad in his constituency.

“As we know, the CDERT squad in my constituency is currently doing the sanitation works regularly in public places to prevent the spread of Covid-19 among the community.

“But, if they themselves do not wear or have enough PPE suits when doing the sanitation works, this can also endanger themselves as well.

“So, the contribution is timely during these trying times and I would like to thank the association for this kind initiative,” said Yeoh.

Yeoh also urged more associations to come forward to support the CDERT squad with such initiative in Paya Terubong and other constituencies as well.
