We need full support in state election, Chow tells PH supporters

IT is imperative for the people of Penang to continue giving their strong mandate to Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the upcoming state election, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

The state PH chairman said it is important for PH to continue its principles of good governance, efficiency, accountability and transparency.

“Without good governance, it can affect the people and the state as a whole.

“Over the last 15 years, PH had a proven track record in administering Penang.

“We have brought positive changes to Penang with our various policies and programmes for the benefit of the people and the state as a whole.

“We will continue with our efforts to improve the living conditions and livelihoods of all Penangites if we manage to receive a strong mandate from the people of Penang once again.

“We need to ensure that PH will continue to administer Penang after the state election, so that we can continue with our mission to bring Penang to greater heights,” Chow said in his speech during the Bukit Gelugor Chinese New Year open house at Taman Terubong Jaya market and food complex in Paya Terubong today.

Also present were Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, who is also the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reforms), state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin and Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng Soon Siang.

According to Chow, although there is no specific date yet for the state election in Penang, it is most likely to be held in June or July this year.

“Since the last election was held on May 9 (2018), the Penang state assembly can be dissolved anyway after May 9 this year.

“This is because we would have served the full term.

“Upon dissolution of the state assembly, this will pave the way for the state election to be held most probably in June or July, and the date is to be determined by the Election Commission,” he said.

The Pakatan Harapan-led Penang, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan; and the PAS-led Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah did not hold their state elections together with the 15th General Election (GE15) last November and will have to hold their polls this year.

Meanwhile, Ramkarpal said for more than 20 years, PH has been championing the agenda of reforms.

“We are now at the stage (federal level) where we can implement those reforms.

“It is only with your continuous support that we can continue with the work we have done at the state and federal levels.

“We also hope that we will receive your strong support again in the upcoming state election to ensure PH will continue to lead the state and to continue developing and uplifting it to the next level,” he said.
