THROUGH youth associations, young people gain invaluable knowledge and training in various fields, from leadership and entrepreneurship to technical and life skills.
Speaking at the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) Alumni Gathering for the Northeast District held at Balai Rakyat Jalan Patani today, Penang Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen said such training empowers youths to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress while addressing issues like unemployment.

“After all, today’s youth leadership is the legacy of the struggles and guidance of those who came before us.
“In the past, there was no social media, so youth associations were the universities of life that moulded the next generation of leaders through leadership training, teamwork, and volunteerism.
“It is through these values, leadership, skills development, and entrepreneurship that our youth grow into mature, confident individuals with strong identities and the determination to succeed in life,” Gooi added.
He also cited a notable example such as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who once led the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM), the Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM), and the National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students (PKPIM).
“His leadership journey began within these youth movements, proving that such platforms can shape individuals who go on to make significant contributions to the nation,” Gooi said.
Gooi also encouraged former youth leaders and activists to continue serving the community.
“I sincerely hope that those who remain in good health and spirit will continue to participate actively in volunteerism and civic initiatives.
“Volunteer work is a meaningful platform to help others and to build an ethical, compassionate, and supportive community.
“I am confident that the MBM Penang branch will continue to serve society not only within the state but also internationally by sharing knowledge, skills, and experiences for our collective progress,” he concluded.
Also present were Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, Penang MBM Alumni chairman Mohamed Sabri Alianas, and Penang MBM president Vincent Tan Chor Lim.
