THOUSANDS of enthusiastic youth gathered at the vibrant Hin Bus Depot in George Town recently to celebrate the state-level National Youth Day 2025, a high-energy event filled with opportunities for inspiration, connection, and growth.

The celebration featured a diverse range of activities including a career carnival, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) showcases, e-sports tournaments, sports challenges, and lifestyle programmes, drawing participation from youth across Penang.

A key highlight was the ‘Anugerah Perdana Belia Negara’ (state level) — a prestigious award recognising outstanding individuals and youth organisations for their exemplary contributions to society.

The event also offered interactive booths, competitions, product sales, workshops, and volunteer programmes, making it a comprehensive platform for empowerment and community engagement.

Gooi emphasised the significance of this year’s theme, ‘Yakin Boleh’ (Believe You Can).

He said the theme encapsulates the resilience and determination of today’s youth as they rise to meet modern challenges, echoing the government’s move to redefine youth as those aged up to 30, effective from 2026 under the National Youth Policy.

“Penang National Youth Day is not just an annual event — it’s a significant recognition of youth as our nation’s most valuable asset in driving development,” Gooi said.

He encouraged youth to make the most of the programme by building networks, gaining experience, and testing their limits.

“Be leaders who not only speak out, but also solve problems wisely.

“Let this event be the spark that ignites a new wave of youth leadership in Penang — progressive, resilient, and patriotic torchbearers of Malaysia Madani,” he added.

Also present were Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan Hooi Peng, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng Soon Siang, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Benji Ang Ming Quan, Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) director Harry Chai Heng Hua, Penang Youth and Sports Department (JSBNPP) director Mozakir Buyong Mokhtar and Penang Youth Council chairman Vincent Tan Chor Lim.
