48-hour scheduled water supply interruption: All geared up to minimise difficulties of affected consumers

THE Penang government together with the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) and the volunteer fire brigades are all geared up to mobilise water supply aid to affected consumers during the 48-hour scheduled water supply interruption in Seberang Perai from Dec 2 to 4.

PBAPP issued a statement on Nov 23, notifying the consumers of the scheduled water supply interruption due to valve replacement works at the Sungai Dua water treatment plant.

Several areas in Central Seberang Perai will experience low water pressure; while most areas in North Seberang Perai, Central Seberang Perai, and South Seberang Perai will experience no water supply from 10pm on Dec 2 to 10pm on Dec 4.

Penang Welfare and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said the Penang government has prepared the necessary action to be taken to minimise the difficulties of the affected consumers.

“Two people (coordinators) from each state constituency have been assigned to liaise with the respective joint management bodies (JMBs), management corporations (MCs) or key personnel in their areas.

“The JMBs, MCs or key personnel can contact the coordinators to request water supply aid if needed.

“We advise the affected consumers to store water before the 48-hour scheduled water supply interruption,“ he told Buletin Mutiara when met at the State Legislative Assembly today.

In the media statement by PBAPP, the corporation stated that it is working with the volunteer fire brigade coordinated by the Penang government, to mobilise water supply assistance through tankers after 12 hours of water supply interruption.

Phee said there is no room for errors and he urged those involved in providing aid to be reachable.

“Please make sure that you are reachable at all times during this crucial period.

“Those who have been assigned to coordinate or to provide aid to the needy must be alert.

“This is because the people may end up jamming the PBAPP call centre line when they require water supply aid.

“We do not want that to happen since we have a proper system now.

“The community representatives (JMBs, MCs and others) have the contact numbers of the coordinators.

“The coordinators will contact the volunteer fire brigades to send water supply aid to needy consumers. Every request and water supply provided will be recorded.

“There are also five volunteer fire brigades on standby to provide extra support to the areas in need,” he added.
