A shot in the arm for charity bodies

THE Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) Penang together with OCBC Bank (Malaysia) have managed to raise more than their targeted amount of RM800,000 for Penang-based charity organisations and the Penang Lawan Covid-19 fund.

After disbursing RM20,000 each to six charity homes on Nov 6, the organisers presented another RM280,000 to 14 charity homes today.

A symbolic presentation was held in Komtar and the ceremony was witnessed by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and the state executive council (exco) members.

The organisers also donated RM100,000 to the Penang Lawan Covid-19 fund.

FMM Penang vice-chairman Datuk Jimmy Ong said more charity organisations would benefit for the next batch.

Chow thanked FMM Penang, OCBC Bank (Malaysia) and the donors who lent their support to the needy organisations during this difficult period.

“I wish to thank the great donors for their generosity and support. Your charitable efforts are most admirable, especially during this situation where donations are hard to come by,” he told the media.

Among those present were Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman and Prof Dr P. Ramasamy; and state exco members Jagdeep Singh Deo, Yeoh Soon Hin, Phee Boon Poh, Abdul Halim Hussain, Soon Lip Chee, Zairil Khir Johari and Dr Norlela Ariffin.

Also present were FMM Penang chairman Datuk Dr Ooi Eng Hock, FMM Penang vice-chairman Datuk Jimmy Ong and OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad senior manager (Penang branch) Chea Hak Tee.
