AI4S programme launched to empower students for the digital age

88 Captains, a non-governmental organisation, launched the Artificial Intelligence for School (AI4S) programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Batu Maung yesterday.

 

During the launching ceremony, Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo said the initiative would empower students to utilise and create AI applications, fostering both technological usage and understanding.

 

Jagdeep, who also oversees the Human Capital Development, Science and Technology portfolio, witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tech Dome Penang and 88 Captains to boost AI education in schools.

 

“On May 23 last year, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow launched the 5G School Digital Library, which received an extraordinary response from 88 schools. Now, we are advancing with AI4S, extending our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) elements, particularly in AI,” Jagdeep said in his speech.

 

Also present were 88 Captains chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ooi Eng Hock,  Tech Dome Penang chief executive officer Khoo Boo Wooi and Intel senior director , Ir Dr Ngoo Seong Boon.

Other strategic partners involved in the AI4S programme include Intel Malaysia, Bank OCBC, Penang STEM, Tech Dome, Microsoft, SNS Network, and YTL Communications.

 

Abdul Said Hussain, director of Penang State Education Department (JPN), expressed gratitude to 88 Captains and the strategic partners in his speech.

 

“The current generation, adept with technology and the internet, has unprecedented opportunities to engage in social, political, and environmental issues like never before.

 

“Through the AI4S programme, we believe students will deepen their understanding and appropriate use of technology and AI,” Abdul Said said.
