Amazing Amahs to strut their stuff

SENIOR citizens can contribute to the well-being of the community when they are given the opportunity to do so.

As such, the Rose Charities Malaysia is organising the ‘Amazing Amah’s Fashion Show’ which will see the participation of grandmothers aged 60 and above.

The fundraising event will be held on May 8 at the St Giles Wembley Hotel.

State executive councillor for Non-Islamic Religious Affairs and Social Development Chong Eng praised the Rose Charities Malaysia for providing the platform for the senior citizens to contribute to the society.

“Rose Charities’ events are always held for a good cause and this time the funds raised will be used to aid the Orang Asli community.

“It is good to see that the association encourages senior citizens to be actively engaged in the community programmes.

“My office has always been supportive of their programmes and this time, I have allocated RM5,000 as a token of appreciation as well as to support the association’s community work,” Chong Eng said during the mock cheque presentation ceremony today held at the Rose Charities Malaysia’s centre in Codrington Avenue.

Chong also shared that it was important to encourage the senior citizens to continuously participate in various activities concerning social, economic, cultural, spiritual and community affairs. She said this would allow them to age gracefully.

“It is important for the state and the country to give emphasis and attention to creating the right environment for the senior citizens to lead an active life.

“The ‘Amazing Amah’s Fashion Show’ is a good example of this. This also aligns with the state’s Penang2030 vision which focuses on increasing the participation of youth, women and senior citizens in activities involving the community.

“Thus, I also urge all the senior citizens to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle by involving in activities such as reading, socialising, travelling, gardening, sports and performing arts,” she added.

Also present was Rose Charities Malaysia president Datuk Lawrence Cheah

At the event, Chong Eng has also pledged to give RM2,000 to Rose Charities Malaysia in conjunction with the Mother’s Day celebration which falls on May 8.

Meanwhile, the organising chairman for the event, Baby Goh said the ‘Amazing Amah’s Fashion Show’ was inspired by China’s Fashion Grandmas.

The collaborative partners for the event are Dare to Dream, Dream Makers, Montage Wedding Studio, Rainb Ragazzo Academy, Stella-in International & Vanessa Diamonds.

The Amazing Amah’s Fashion Show aims to raise RM50,000 to purchase solar panels and water filters for the Orang Asli community living in Gerik.
