PROJECTS such as Andaman Island show how proper planning, sustainability, and quality development can come together to create a comfortable and vibrant community, says Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

According to Chow, Andaman Island is an important development that will help shape Penang’s future while contributing to the state’s economy.

According to Chow, Andaman Island is an important development that will help shape Penang’s future while contributing to the state’s economy.

“Spanning 760 acres, this township development aligns closely with the aspirations of the Penang2030 vision.

“It reflects our goal of creating a greener, smarter, and more inclusive Penang for future generations.

“As Penang continues to grow, development must always be carried out responsibly and with long-term planning.

“Thus, Andaman Island plays an important role in the transformation of Penang’s northern coastline into a modern and dynamic urban corridor,” Chow said in his speech when he visited Andaman Island this evening.

Following the visit, Chow attended The Meg Appreciation Dinner organised by the Eastern & Oriental (E&O) Berhad.

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo, Penang Local Government and Town & Country Planning Committee chairman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye, Penang Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu, E&O Berhad managing director Kok Tuck Cheong, E&O Berhad executive chairman Datuk Seri Tee Eng Ho and E&O Berhad executive director Datuk Tee Eng Seng.

During the dinner, the Gurney Bridge was recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the Widest Box Girder Bridge in Malaysia.

Chow said this achievement reflects the scale, engineering capability, and commitment behind the project.

“The bridge was officially opened in December last year. The 1.2-kilometre eight-lane bridge has improved connectivity between Gurney Drive and Andaman Island, making access smoother and more convenient for residents and visitors alike.

“At the same time, Andaman Island’s GreenRE Platinum provisional certification is another positive step forward.

“It reflects greater awareness of the importance of sustainable and environmentally responsible development in Penang,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kok said Andaman Island is not just an E&O development as it reflects a shared vision with the Penang government and above all, a place for the people of Penang to experience and enjoy.

Kok said Andaman Island is not just an E&O development as it reflects a shared vision with the Penang government and above all, a place for the people of Penang to experience and enjoy.

“It was never just about developing buildings and houses. It was about shaping the future of Penang’s seafront, a new urban canvas where thoughtful planning, sustainability, and community living could come together.

“More broadly, Andaman Island reflects our aspiration to create a thoughtfully planned seafront township, one that balances urban vibrancy with environmental responsibility,” he said.
