Balik Pulau MP ensures food basket programme reaches the needy

THE food basket programme in Balik Pulau is to cater to all its deserving residents without any partiality, says Balik Pulau MP Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik.

He brushed aside the allegation that the food basket aid was only given to individuals who are supporters of certain political parties.

“The help is for all as we are giving out to the needy irrespective of their race, religion and the political party that they belong to.

“For instance, the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) had also given us a name list consisting of 84 individuals and we have distributed food items already to the first 50.

“We will follow up with the rest of them in the list and make sure that they receive this aid,’’ said Muhammad Bakhtiar after handing over the food baskets via drive-thru in Balik Pulau recently.

The food basket programme in Balik Pulau, which began on July 16 (phase one), will see a distribution of a total of 3,000 food baskets.

Apart from that, Muhammad Bakhtiar has also undertaken the initiative to distribute ‘nasi lemak’, chicken meat, and cooking oil to those whose income have been affected due to Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are also providing diapers for kids as well as milk powder (milk formula) vouchers which can be redeemed at selected shops,’’ he added.
