THIRTY-ONE cleaners from the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) were feted to a ‘nasi biriyani’ treat on the evening of April 30 at the Bite N Eat Dindigul Biriyani Restaurant at Penang Street in George Town.

Some 40 take away packets of the biriyani rice were also prepared for the cleaners who could not join their colleagues at the meet-up dinner gathering at the restaurant.

“It is our way of expressing our appreciation for their hardwork in taking care of cleanliness in the community.

“We do it during the eve of Labour  Day to show them that we care for their untiring efforts,”  restaurant owner N.S.Y. Balan said when met by the media at the dinner function.

Also present was the restaurant’s manager, J.Kapil Kumar and MBPP’s Urban Services Department director Mubarak Junus.

Balan said this was the restaurant’s first treat for the MBPP cleaners.

“We hope to do it yearly in conjunction with Labour Day,” he commented, adding that the restaurant has just open for business about one and half year ago.
