Boustead may build two littoral mission ships in Penang

BOUSTEAD Heavy Industries Corporation (BHIC), a subsidiary of Boustead Holdings, has plans to build two littoral mission ships for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) in Penang.

This was conveyed by BHIC executive deputy chairman-cum-managing director Ahmad Ramli Mohd Nor to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow when he paid a courtesy call at the latter’s office in Komtar today.

Joining Ahmad Ramli were Boustead Penang Shipyard director Admiral Datuk Mohammad Nik and Boustead Penang Shipyard chief operating officer Mohamed Ithnin.

Chow, who warmly welcomed them, took note of the assistance they needed from the state government.

On March 24 in 2017, BHIC had formalised a RM1.17 billion contract with a Chinese shipyard to build four littoral mission ships for RMN.

The first of the two ships will be built and delivered in China this year and 2020; while the remaining two will be built in Malaysia in 2021.
