Building stronger families

PARENTS are children’s first teachers.

They play a very important role in instilling good values in children.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said children would excel, not only in school but also in life, when parents invest time in imparting good values and shaping the character of their children.

“If every family is strong, it will certainly provide our society and country with the strongest foundation for the future.

“We celebrate the institution of the family because we believe that strong families nurture the next generation and form the basic building blocks of our society,” Chow said in his speech before opening the Teddy Bear Fashion Design Competition 2019 at 1st Avenue Mall today.

He said the Penang2030 vision also has the same emphasis on family.

“The vision Penang2030: A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation has an important keyword which is ‘Family’.

“If we do it right at the family-level, much good would happen for the nation as a whole,” he said.

Colour Me Art Atelier founder Bryan Dickson said the competition was held to raise awareness of the importance of bonding and building strong families.

The Teddy Bear Fashion Design Competition 2019 was organised by Colour Me Art Atelier to promote family bonding among family members.

The competition attracted over 200 participants; comprising over 100 pairs of adults and children.

Members from the Penang Deaf Association also took part in the competition.

The participants were required to paint and decorate a teddy bear sculpture within a specific time.

The winning entries stand a chance to bag RM1,700 in cash prizes and certificates of participation.

The artworks will be displayed at the mall’s atrium from Sept 8 to 15.
