THE ‘Taiwan Music & Culture Experience Camp’, organised by the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) in collaboration with the Shih Chien University of Taiwan, will be held in Taiwan from Dec 5 to Dec 12.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the camp would provide opportunities for local young musicians to learn and exchange ideas with their peers and to acquire new experiences in musical performance.

“It is also to enhance their own development in music, and promote local music culture among the participants,” Soon told a press conference in Komtar today, adding that some 40 students would be selected.

The music camp, open to Malaysians aged between 15 and 30, comes with a basic requirement that applicants must have a basic music foundation, be able to read music notes and also sight-reading. Western instruments are preferred and Mandarin speaking students will be a plus.

Soon said the registration fee for the music camp is RM3,700 per student, which include round-trip airfare (eight days and seven nights), 14 meals and more than 10 master classes.

“The master classes include musical instrument, music appreciation, music basic training, music theory, western music studies, music history studies, concert hall training, concert hall architecture and environment and others.

“All applicants will have to pass an interview. Those interested should not miss the opportunity and register as soon as possible.”

The deadline for registration is July 8 while the interview date is July 13.
