Celebrating the 64th birthday of the Emperor of Japan in Penang

PENANG remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening the existing good relations and bilateral cooperation with Japan.

 

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow affirmed the state’s dedication to advancing economic and cultural ties between the two nations.

“This year marks the first of the next 50 years of trusted partnership between both nations. I believe Penangites eagerly anticipate the return of both Yosakoi and Bon Odoro on a grander scale this year,” he said during the commemoration of the 64th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan at Eastern & Oriental Hotel today.

 

Chow extended sincere wishes for the success and prosperity of the government and the people of Japan to His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.

 

Consul-General of Japan in Penang, Kawaguchi Yoshiyasu, expressed optimism for the continued strength of ties between the two sides.

Those present were treated to a sumptuous dinner during the event.

 

Later, during a ceremonial toast, Chow invited all attendees to join him in toasting to the good health and well-being of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.

 

Among the distinguished guests were Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying, state Social Development, Non-Religious and Welfare Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim, state Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye, Pulau Tikus assemblyman Joshua Woo, Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan, and Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng.

 

The Consul-General of Thailand in Penang, Raschada Jiwalai, and the Consul-General of the Republic of Indonesia in Penang, Wanton Saragih Sidauruk, also graced the occasion.
