THE Hari Raya joy was in the air for some 3,000 people who thronged the Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman’s Hari Raya open house here at Dewan Milenium, Kepala Batas.

 

Guests made a beeline for the buffet spread, which includes festive treats such as Nasi Arab, kambing golek, satay, chendol, ketupat, fried chicken, rojak and sizzling noodle.

Penang Governor Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas graced the event at about 2.30pm.

 

Accompanying him were Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Ahmad Zakiyuddin, Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy, state executive council members Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain and Chong Eng.

Also present were Bertam assemblyman Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq, Kebun Bunga assemblyman Jason Ong, Nibong Tebal MP Datuk Dr Mansor Othman, Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang, Seberang Perai Municipal Council president Datuk Rozali Mohamud, Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP) president Datuk Abdul Malik Abul Kassim and Penang mufti Datuk Seri Dr Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor.

Ahmad Zakiyuddin said he was happy to see people of different beliefs coming together to celebrate the joyous occasion.

 

“I want to thank everyone who came and celebrate Hari Raya today.

 

“The event was successfully held. It shows that the community treasures unity in diversity.

 

“I am sorry that I lost my voice, perhaps due to the delicious food,” he said, drawing laughter from the media.
