THE Penang government is striving to better promote a green and sustainable environment.

State Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh stressed on the importance of educating the community on waste management.

“The public needs to have a better understanding on waste management issues,” Phee said before presenting 391 units of vacuum flasks to the employees of Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) today.

MPSP president Datuk Rozali Mohamud lauded the environmental-friendly effort by the state.

“This will encourage more MPSP staff to use their own beverage containers and discourage them from using single-use plastics.”

It is learnt that the vacuum flasks were given to MPSP councillors, council management staff, professional group officials and Group B employees (assistant administrative officers) of the council.

“We will not be supplying mineral water using plastic water bottles anymore. The councillors have been told to bring the vacuum flasks or their own water bottles during meetings,” Rozali said.
