CM Chow lauded for visiting markets in Seberang Perai

AFTER visiting several markets on the island yesterday, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow spent his time today visiting other markets on the mainland.

He arrived at the Sri Bandar Market in Butterworth at 9am and were greeted by Bagan Dalam assemblyman M. Satees and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud.

Chow, like other market-goers, underwent a body temperature check before entering the market to distribute face masks.

Many of the hawkers, traders and market-goers in the market smiled and thanked Chow after receiving a packet of five face masks each.

“Thank you to CM for taking his time to come to Bagan Dalam and to monitor the situation during this movement control order,” Satees said.

“This is one of the most crowded markets in Butterworth after Apollo Market, so it is important that we practise social distancing and take whatever precautionary measures here.

“Market is one of the places where the coronavirus can spread so fast because of the crowd.

“So, it’s good that CM came to take a look himself. There are also heads of other departments here and they are more aware of the situation.

“This market is controlled very efficiently and MBSP has the thermal scanner to check the visitors’ body temperature.

“We have also distributed face masks three or four times before this.”

Rozali said the visit by Chow to Seberang Perai again shows that he cares for the public health and safety of all Penangites in the fight against Covid-19.

“In fact, he visited the Madrasah Darul Muhajirin in Padang Chempedak yesterday to present some provisions in conjunction with Ramadan.

“We are appreciative of his concern and interest in the people here,” Rozali said.
