CM Chow praises Penang Master Builders for its tireless dedication

CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow thanked the Penang Master Builders (PMB) for its unwavering commitment to the construction sector over the years.

Chow said PMB, which is one of the oldest trade associations in Penang, has come a long way in proactively representing the construction industry.

“I would like to congratulate the PMB on reaching this significant milestone.

“And I hope more organisations would follow in the footsteps of such commendable efforts and dedication,” Chow said during the PMB’s 145th anniversary dinner at St Giles The Wembley Hotel today.

Chow also lauded PMB’s efforts in promoting the blue ocean strategy among its members, which was timely.

“Capturing ‘blue oceans’ or in other words, unexplored new markets is a capital idea to stay relevant.

“This is more so in the Covid-19 aftermath, where many businesses are struggling for survival in the ‘red oceans’ which are full of intense competition,” he added.

Apart from that, Chow also acknowledged the association’s efforts to refurbish the temple of Master Loo Pan, the patron deity of carpenters and builders.

“These temples, steeped in history, are not only inspiring works of art but also captivating representations of culture and community.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to emphasise that the Penang government is dedicated to addressing issues such as liveability, economy, community, and resiliency.

“We make sure that developments in the state are appropriately planned and prepared in line with Penang2030 vision,” he added.

Organising chairman Datuk Albert Moh said Covid-19 has affected many lives and livelihoods.

“The outbreak has taught us one important lesson – we are stronger together than we are apart. As communities come together, so do businesses. We are building bridges of hope everywhere.

“Survival of the fittest is no longer applicable, it is now survival of those who know how to adapt and forge smart partnerships.

“This very brotherhood of support and synergy is reflected in the camaraderie among our association members here.

“One of the mindsets that we can all explore is the Blue Ocean Strategy, which we are strongly advocating to our members.

“It is about tapping into new markets where there is little or no competition. We should create new land, not divide up existing land.

“That is why our theme for this evening is Blue Ocean. It is a new beginning for many of us – let us find new land, greener pastures or ‘Blue Oceans’ together,” he said in his speech.

Meanwhile, PMB president Datuk Goh Teng Whoo said the association is determined in strengthening the construction sector.

“We will put more focus on training sessions and seminars for members as we see upskilling and reskilling are the strategic responses to remain competitive.

“Our upcoming effort including organising Buildex Exhibition that offers the right platform for construction-related companies and enterprises to showcase their products and services,” Goh said.

At the dinner, the awards for the longest service (10 years, 15 years and 20 years) were also presented to the PMB’s members.
