PENANG continues to draw local and international tourists to the state – thanks to its heritage charm and cultural identity.

The state will be celebrating the George Town Heritage Celebrations 2019 from July 6 to 8 to mark the 11th anniversary of George Town as a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said George Town was inscribed as a Unesco World Heritage Site, together with Melaka, due to its historical and cultural influences.

“Besides the heritage buildings, we have intangible cultural heritage which is equally important.

“Penang has a lot to offer aside from its strong cultural heritage. We believe that we can also draw tourists to the state with other attractions,” he said after opening the Taiwan Expo 2019 at Setia SPICE Convention Centre today.

Chow says Penang has a lot to offer visitors.

Chow welcomed the public to take part in the George Town Heritage Celebrations 2019.

“It is important to have public participation. I welcome everyone to join in the celebration and take part in the events that are being offered,” he said.

Themed ‘Let’s Celebrate – Rituals and Festive Events’, it specially highlights festive events and rituals performed by the local communities.

The celebration is organised by George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI), with the endorsement of the Penang government and supported by the Penang Island City Council, Penang Global Tourism and Malaysian National Commission for Unesco.
