A VIBRANT celebration of learning, wellness, sustainability, and community spirit took centre stage at the annual ‘Fit For The Future 2026’ event, which drew more than 500 participants to Straits Quay recently.
The event, jointly organised by SJKC Shih Chung Cawangan, SMK Datuk Haji Mohamed Nor Ahmad, Straits Quay, The One Academy, and the Penang state government, recorded its highest participation to date.

Students and parents from 35 schools across Penang, together with university students from three higher education institutions, took part in the programme, making this year’s edition the most successful since its inception.

A wide range of engaging activities was held throughout the event, including a public speaking competition, colouring contest, K-pop dance competition, terrarium-making competition, health talks, as well as ukulele and Latin dance performances.

Carrying the theme ‘Towards Wealth, Health and a Greener Future’, the programme highlighted the importance of integrating sustainable development education into everyday life.
It sought to nurture responsible and future-ready citizens equipped with financial literacy, healthy lifestyle habits, and environmental awareness.
Participants also had the opportunity to visit environmental and health exhibition booths, where interactive displays and hands-on activities provided valuable insights into sustainable living practices.
These experiential learning opportunities enabled students and members of the public to better understand sustainability concepts while encouraging them to adopt environmentally responsible behaviours in their daily lives.
Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Koay Gaik Kee, who attended the event, praised the programme for successfully bringing together various segments of the community to raise awareness on health, financial literacy, and environmental sustainability.

She said initiatives such as ‘Fit For The Future’ play an important role in cultivating informed and responsible citizens, adding that MBPP would continue supporting educational programmes that contribute positively to community development.
Meanwhile, SJKC Shih Chung Cawangan principal Wong Sze Cheak said the event provided students with a valuable platform to showcase their talents, build self-confidence, and strengthen their understanding of financial literacy, healthy living, and environmental stewardship.
Organising chairperson Charles Tan noted that the programme serves as a meaningful platform that unites different sectors of society in the spirit of service and collaboration.
“Through this event, we aim to promote the values of health, wealth, and green living while encouraging the community to work together towards a more sustainable future,” he said.
