UPGRADING works at the Sree Maha Mariamman Hall, a prominent hall for the Indian community on Jalan Mengkuang, are now nearing completion.

Bagan Dalam assemblyman K.Kumaran who is also the Penang Hindu Endowments Board (PHEB) commisioner announced this during a press conference today.

Kumaran shared that the project which commenced on July 29 and is expected to be completed by Oct 19 this year.

“The upgrading works include the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of a new air-conditioning system, along with other related works to enhance the hall’s overall functionality and comfort.

“This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to improve facilities at Sree Maha Mariamman Hall, which serves as an important venue for religious and community events,” he said.

According to Kumaran, between July 1 and Aug 2024, a Request for Proposal (RFP) was issued to appoint operators to manage the upgrading, repairs, and operation of the hall.

“However, after careful review, the board found the offers received to be unreasonable and decided to proceed with the project independently.

“An open tender was subsequently called for the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning for the replacement of the air-conditioning system and related works at the hall, which was open from March 21 to April 23.

“A site visit was conducted on April 3, attended by nine contractors, with seven subsequently submitting their quotations,” Kumaran added.

Kumaran said that, following a detailed evaluation by the procurement sub-committee, the contract was awarded to Platinum M&E Engineering Sdn Bhd.

“The new system cost RM488,000, which includes a complete new water-cooled Dunham-Bush screw chiller, a new electrical board, roof leak repairs, ceiling repairs, and the installation of a new hanging-type ceiling in the hall.

“All works are progressing smoothly and remain on schedule,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kumaran shared that upon completion on Oct 19, the hall is expected to resume operations in mid-October, after the testing works are completed.

“We will work together with the Sree Maha Mariamman Temple Committee to manage the hall once it resumes operations, ensuring efficiency and transparency.
