‘Coolest Projects’ competition to take place during PISF 2019

THE Penang International Science Fair (PISF) 2019 is back again for the eighth consecutive year, this time with its latest addition – the ‘Coolest Projects’ competition.

The competition is to be held for the first time in Penang at Setia SPICE Arena on Nov 2 and 3.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the competition was previously held in Europe and the United States.

“The competition will be held in Asia for the first time and Penang is the venue.

“The Coolest Projects competition involves visual programming, games, web, mobile apps and hardware.

“Other competitions such as open robotics design challenge, Lego robotics, advanced robotics, AgriTech competition, junior innovate national level, CPR competition and pop-up challenge will also be held.

It is learnt that some 200 teams comprised of over 500 participants have registered their interest.

“The event will also have over 20,000 hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities,” Chow told a press conference at his office in Komtar today.

Jointly organised by the state and Penang Science Cluster (PSC), the science fair, themed ‘Creating A Difference’, is set to draw about 60,000 visitors.

Chow encouraged parents and teachers to bring along their children and students to the fair.

PSC chief executive officer Ooi Peng Ee thanked the state for its commitment towards STEM education.

“The younger generation will benefit from the fair. Students will have the chance to learn more about science and technology,” he said.

Also present were the state executive councillors.

The PISF 2019 will be held from 9am to 6pm. Admission is free.
