THE state Fisheries Department is offering their services to help authorities bring down the number of suicide cases on Penang bridge.

Its chairman Nazri Ahmad hoped that the ministry would draft an operating procedure for the department to assist the authorities such as the police and Fire and Rescue Department.

“We are concern with the number of suicide cases on both the Penang bridge and the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge,” he told a press conference at LKIM Batu Maung today.

He also hoped that the Federal Government would review the allocation to fishermen.

“The reduction in allowance has greatly affected the fishermen.

“There are about 5,000 fishermen who are registered with the department,” he said, adding that he would raise matters concerning the fishermen to Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin soon.
