THE state Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) have been instructed to take proactive measures in response to the appearance of some cracks on the road at Taman Desa Jawi in Nibong Tebal, says state executive councillor Jason H’ng Mooi Lye.
According to H’ng, who is in charge of the Local Government, Town and Country Planning portfolio, local residents discovered the 80m-long crack on the road a few days ago.
“We suspect soil erosion may have caused the crack. The exact cause is still under investigation. The crack has also affected nearby drains.
“I have already informed the state DID and MBSP about this matter. Once the cause of the soil erosion is identified, remedial work will commence.
“It is crucial to determine the cause to prevent a recurrence,” H’ng told a press conference during his visit to the place yesterday (Sept 25).
H’ng, who is also the Jawi assemblyman, said an assessment will be conducted on a few houses near the road cracks for the safety of the inhabitants.
“If deemed unsafe, the affected residents will be relocated to a safer place.
“I also would like to urge the public to avoid going near the road cracks as they may pose a danger,” he said.
