SEBERANG Perai’s tourism scene received a significant boost with the launch of a comprehensive collection of tourism promotion materials under the ‘Levelling Up Seberang Perai’ initiative.
It was complemented by the signing of a strategic MoU between PGT and Think City.
The new collection features 12 publications and audiovisual content, including ‘Exploring Seberang Perai/Jelajah Seberang Perai’, the ‘Hidden Gems of Seberang Perai’ (North, Central and South) , ‘Guar Kepah – Sejarah, Arkeologi & Kelestarian Warisan’, ‘Sejarah & Warisan Haji di Seberang Perai’, ‘Navigating the Legacies of Nibong Tebal’, ‘Birds of Seberang Perai’, ‘Bird Guide for Juniors’ ‘Permatang Tinggi Cultural Mapping.

Adding to these are seven short videos showcasing Seberang Perai’s small towns and natural landscapes, as well as the Siri Dokumentari Seberang Perai Utara.
The initiative, funded through the Seberang Perai Small Town Grants Programme, aims to rejuvenate the mainland by highlighting its rich ecological, cultural, and community-driven assets.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai shared that the initiative is part of a broader effort to shift Seberang Perai’s identity from a transit point to a destination in its own right.
“These materials are designed to guide visitors through the unique attractions of Seberang Perai, from birdwatching, rural experiences, and local hospitality to traditional culinary heritage and deep-rooted historical narratives.
“Nature and culture-based tourism sectors, including ecotourism, homestays, F&B (food and beverage), arts, and handicrafts are now emerging as new economic drivers for the region.
“Seberang Perai holds immense potential. Its natural resources, cultural richness, and local wisdom offer opportunities for sustainable tourism that benefits both visitors and communities,” Wong said said during the launch at Fifth Avenue yesterday (Nov 13).
The event brought together tourism operators, travel agents, hoteliers, and tour guides to familiarise them with the diverse tourism products available on the mainland.
Wong added that a similar launch will also take place at the upcoming Butterworth Fringe Festival.

“The newly launched materials are expected to serve as key references for industry players in designing future tourism packages, encouraging greater integration between Penang island and Seberang Perai.
“This synergy aims to unlock a more holistic tourism ecosystem and expand sustainable economic opportunities for local residents.
“The MoU signed between Think City and PGT marks a formal commitment to jointly promote Seberang Perai’s tourism offerings, paving the way for stronger collaboration as preparations intensify for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
“With its blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and growing innovative energy, Seberang Perai is poised to emerge as one of Penang’s most promising tourism destinations inviting travellers to discover its stories, communities, and unforgettable experiences,” Wong said.
Think City spearheaded the development of the promotional materials with strong support from the state government, the Ministry of Finance Malaysia, and the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA), as well as collaboration from local grassroots communities.
For the MoU signing, PGT was represented by its chief executive officer, Ooi Chok Yan, and Think City by its technical director, Stuart Macdonald. It was witnessed by Wong.
