Diversifying training programmes to boost sports performance

PENANG state coaches and athletes integrated resistance training in their sports training programme during a workshop here at the Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) to boost sports performance.

The Foundation to Peak Performance in Sports on AMSR Concept workshop was held on Nov 27. It was organised by Sanctband Active, in collaboration with the Penang State Sports Council.

Coach and former badminton national player Daphne Ng said the workshop with the MSNPP coaches concentrated on the foundation of sports training.

“We also applied the AMSR concept (Activation, Mobilisation, Strengthening and Recovery) in the exercises to maximise gains.

“The coaches can apply what they learn to help their athletes improve performance and decrease sports injuries,” she said.

Sanctband Active brand proprietor and Sanctuary Health Sdn Bhd managing director Koh Yek Joo said the objective of the workshop was to promote awareness and resistance training integration in sports training programmes.

“Resistance training is often stereotyped as training for rehabilitation purposes, but in truth, it has also helped to improve sports performance,” Koh said.

MSNPP director Harry Chai said the sports industry in Malaysia had been encountering challenges caused by Covid-19.

“MSNPP has been exploring various training programmes to keep up with the challenges. The collaboration with Sanctband Active will enable the integration of resistance training into sports training programmes.

“This will create opportunities for stakeholders in the sports industry to diversify their training programmes,” he said.
