Doing their bit for charity

THE Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) Penang, together with OCBC Bank (Malaysia) have now managed to raise more than RM1 million to help Penang-based charity organisations, welfare homes and those in need during this difficult period.

 

FMM Penang advisor Datuk Dr Ooi Eng Hock said a total of RM400,000 had been disbursed to 20 charity organisations and another RM100,000 was donated to the Penang Lawan Covid-19 fund to support the operating expenses.

“We are very thankful to all the wonderful donors who stepped forward to offer their assistance.

 

“We have managed to raise over RM1 million so far and we have disbursed RM500,000.

 

“We plan to do more for the needy community, especially the needy students, with the remaining sum,” Dr Ooi said when met at the OCBC Premier Banking Penang in Beach Street today.

 

Dr Ooi said FMM Penang and OCBC Bank (Malaysia) have prepared some 50 photos to be given to the donors as a token of appreciation.

 

“These photos contain portraits of leaders in the industry, civil society and politics,” he said.

 

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow was invited to pen his signature on the photos.

“I am happy to note the initiative by FMM Penang and OCBC Bank.

 

“They have managed to get a strong support from donors to help the welfare homes, charity organisations and the needy.

 

“Many charity organisations are facing difficulty to raise funds to support their own operations in view of this challenging period.

 

The photos that are to be given to the donors as a token of appreciation.

 

“The initiative by FMM Penang and OCBC Bank will bring joy and relief to these organisations.

 

“The funds can be used to support their operations and help the community,” Chow said.

 

He added that FMM Penang and OCBC Bank had demonstrated the ‘Kita Jaga Kita’ spirit by taking the initiative to help those in need.

 

On a side note, Perusahaan Sindi Sdn Bhd donated 300 reusable face masks to the Penang government to help curb the spread of Covid-19.
