THE George Town City Centre (GTCC) initiative has been successfully launched today to further promote the attractions at Komtar and its surroundings.

GTCC was an initiative jointly undertaken by Prangin Mall, 1st Avenue Mall, The Top Penang, Komtar, Tech Dome Penang dan ICT Mall.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow hoped that the initiative could provide visitors with a good experience.

“The Covid-19 crisis has caused a sharp decline in the number of visitors to the malls. It has affected the businesses here.

“We hope that businesses can complement each other and help to realise the Penang2030 vision with this strategic alliance.

“Congratulations to those who have been instrumental in the success of this initiative, especially Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng,” Chow said in his speech at the launching ceremony today.

In conjunction of the launching ceremony, a mini carnival was also held.

Separately, Chow said that Komtar Walk was undergoing a facelift to enhance the image of Komtar.

“The redevelopment of Komtar Walk, at a cost of RM2.8 million, is divided into two phases.

“Phase One involves the removal of previous outlets.

“And Phase Two involves redesigning the parking lots, the pick-up and drop-off points; the provision of parking lots for cars (58 lots) and motorcycles (43 lots); the bus lay-bys; upgrading works of the floor tiles; onsite landscaping; the construction of seven outlets; and the upgrading works of the existing toilet (beside the Pacific Hypermarket),” Chow said.
