Faraday Cage, a new exhibit at Tech Dome

A FARADAY Cage is one of the latest exhibits to be set up at Tech Dome Penang in Komtar.

Tech Dome Penang chief executive officer Dr Khong Yoon Loong said about 200 years ago, English scientist Michael Faraday discovered that electric charges could not penetrate a closed conducting surface.

“This effect is widely used today, especially in its application on handphones. Without the application of the Faraday Cage in our handphones, we cannot take and receive calls properly,” Khong said during a workshop attended by over 40 students from SM Chung Ling Private.

Also present were Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee Chun Kit and Nolato EMC Production Centre general manager Allen Tan.

Nolato EMC, which develops and manufactures products using materials such as plastic, silicone and thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) sponsored the students’ visit to Tech Dome.

Lee said he was proud of Tech Dome for having attained a high standard and helping to instil interest in science among the young.

“Education cannot guarantee you success but it is the first step needed to a successful career,” Lee told the students.
