AN exhibition showcasing the history of the Governor’s Institution of Penang will be held from July this year until May next year.

Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said Penangites would be able to better understand the history of the institution at the exhibition.

“The exhibition, entitled ‘Dari Gabenor ke TYT’, is one of the state’s core tourism products.

“It is scheduled to take place in July this year to mark, in line with the 73rd birthday celebration of Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak.

“The objective of the exhibition is to carry out the state’s museum mission, which includes conducting research, data collection, preservation, documentation, and publicity in arts, culture, history, and tourism using scientific and systematic methodologies.

“I believe that there are many people who are not familiar with the Governor’s Institution.

“The exhibition will help the people understand the history and background of the institution.

“The exhibition will be held in all five districts. The locations identified are Dewan Sri Pinang, state library in Seberang Jaya, Bertam, Jawi, and Balik Pulau.

“We will announce the details when the time comes,” he told a media conference at Olive Tree Hotel in Bayan Baru today.

Yeoh said that the exhibition also aimed at encouraging the involvement of various government and private agencies or institutions.

“We want to educate the public about the functions of the Penang Governor.

“The offices of the Penang Governor, State Library, National Archives of Malaysia, Penang Branch, Penang State Legal Advisor, District and Land Offices, Protocol Division of State Secretary’s Office, and State Legislative Assembly are all directly involved in making the exhibition a success.

“We are also looking at expanding the exhibition into a nationwide roadshow if it receives an overwhelming response,” he added.

Various programmes are also scheduled to take place. Among them include portrait drawing competition, Seri Mutiara Official Residence puzzle, casual chat, online quiz, video screening and live streaming (virtual tour).

State Museum and Art Gallery director Haryany Mohamad said the exhibition would provide a platform for the people to visit.

“It is an opportunity for the public to get to know the Governor’s Institution and its history.

“This is the first time such exhibition is held and I hope to see strong participation from the public,” she said.

Also present was Penang Governor’s private secretary Rahman Ismail.
