THE Penang government, through the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP), has allocated RM1.17 million to implement a flood mitigation project at Taman Bunga Raya in Butterworth.

State Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the works on the mitigation project had started on Jan 14 and were expected to be completed on Jan 13 next year.

“It will take about a year for the project to be completed.

Zairil said the works on the mitigation project had started on Jan 14 and were expected to be completed on Jan 13 next year.

“The flood mitigation project includes the upgrading works of the drainage system, building a pump house, utility works, building reservoir ponds, and other related works.

“This mitigation project is a timely boost, considering Penang is now experiencing frequent heavy rainfall these days.

“And hopefully when this project is completed, it can minimise the risk of flooding at Taman Bunga Raya and its nearby areas,” said Zairil during his site visit at Taman Bunga Raya in Butterworth today.

Also present were state Welfare and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh, and Bagan Jermal assemblyman Soon Lip Chee, who is also state Youth and Sports Committee chairman.
