THIS year’s celebration of the National Day will be a lot more special as Penang has been chosen to host the national level celebration of the ‘Merdeka Day’.
In conjunction with the National Independence celebration, Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad will be launching the ‘National Day Month and the Fly The ‘Jalur Gemilang’ 2018 campaign with the tagline ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku’ on Aug 4 at the Esplanade.
Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang urged all Penangites to fly the Malaysian flag at home.
“We are very much honoured and delighted having been given the responsibility to host our National Day Celebration. So, let us all give our best to successfully host the event.
“Fly the ‘Jalur Gemilang’ at your homes and bring the vibe of the Merdeka celebration up in the air,” said Yew during the gimmick of the ‘National Day month and the fly the ‘Jalur Gemilang’ 2018 campaign launch at City Hall.
This celebration is expected to pull some 30,000 crowd comprising visitors to Penang as well as locals.
