THERE are about 1,200 parking lots available for the Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta visitors around the venue.

Event organiser AKA Balloon Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Nur Izzati Khairudin said visitors could park their vehicles at SK Jalan Residensi, St George’s Girls’ School, SMK Tuanku Puan Habsah, Taman Jajar and Jalan York.

“Please do not park at the Penang Hospital,” she told a press conference in Komtar on Jan 31.

The fiesta will be held from 7am to 9pm on Feb 9 and 10 at Padang Polo.

“The Jalan Sepoy Lines will be closed from 10pm on Feb 8 to 11pm on Feb 10,” Nur Izzati said.

She also reminded the visitors to keep the venue clean.

Penang Global Tourism chief executive officer Ooi Chok Yan said that the public could take the free shuttle bus services to the festival.

“Shuttle buses will be provided, plying three different routes on the Penang island.

“The first route is from the Penang jetty to Komtar and finally to Padang Polo. The shuttle bus will operate from 7am to 10pm with a 30min frequency.

“The second route is from Tesco Tanjung Tokong to Padang Polo. The bus will run from 7am to 10pm with a 60min frequency.

“The third route is from Queensbay Mall to the Sungai Nibong bus stop (in front of Pesta Pulau Pinang) to Padang Polo. The bus service will also be from 7am to 10pm with a 60min frequency.

“The Hop-On Hop-Off (HoHo) bus service will also be available. The City Route will include an additional stop near Padang Polo (opposite RCSI & UCD Malaysia Campus) in Jalan Sepoy Lines.

“Alternatively, visitors can opt to use the Grab service. They can book a Grab ride to Padang Polo on Feb 9 and 10.

“Riders can get a RM5 off for each ride for up to two rides per unique user, using the promo code HAB2019. The pickup and drop off points for Grab will be located along Jalan Residensi, about 50m from Jalan Sepoy Lines (near the main entrance of the venue),” he said.

Ooi said taxi riders can drop off their customers in Jalan Sepoy Lines (opposite RCSI & UCD Malaysia Campus), as the taxis would be allowed to enter.

“Officials from the Penang Island City Council, Rela and the police will be on duty to monitor and manage the heavy traffic during those two days,” he said.

He added that the motorcycle parking lots are located at the footbridge of Jalan Residensi-Jalan Sepoy Lines junction.
