APPROXIMATELY 3,500 participants took part in the Glo-Walk 11.0, Tech Dome Penang’s flagship community event aimed at promoting healthy living, community spirit, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education at The Waterfront Shoppes in Gelugor.
Now in its 11th edition, the annual fundraiser targeted raising RM200,000 to support Tech Dome Penang’s STEM outreach initiatives and hands-on learning programmes, which are designed to nurture young talent across the state.
Bagan Jermal assemblyman Chee Yeeh Keen, who was the guest of honour, highlighted the importance of integrating healthy living with STEM awareness. He stressed that hands-on learning builds curiosity, problem-solving abilities, and resilience in young minds.
“Penang is already a strong hub for technology, manufacturing, and innovation. As industries continue to embrace artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, and advanced technologies, we need our young people to be ready.
“Penang’s future depends on the talent and creativity of our young people. By investing in STEM education today, we are helping to prepare the next generation for a future shaped by technology and innovation,” Chee said in his speech.
He added that while technology occupies a significant part of daily life, events like Glo-Walk encourage families to step away from their screens, stay active together, and recognise the importance of physical health alongside education.
Tech Dome Penang chief executive officer Khoo Boo Wooi expressed gratitude to the participants, sponsors, and supporting agencies whose collaboration allows the non-profit science centre to extend its educational reach beyond traditional classrooms.
The evening featured interactive games, family activities, a kickboxing warm-up session, and sponsor booths, culminating in a 3km Fun Walk along the waterfront at 7:45 pm.
The event was supported by venue sponsor IJM Land, Platinum sponsors Globetronics and Flex, Gold sponsor Jabil, Silver sponsor A2 Automation, and various state agencies, including the Penang State Education Department, Penang Island City Council (MBPP), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and Penang State Sports Council.
