THE George Town Festival (GTF) 2025, which kicked off at the Esplanade on Saturday (Aug 2), will bring its festivities to Air Itam this coming Saturday (Aug 9) with a community programme themed ‘Bedtime Stories’ at Desa Mawar Community Park from 6pm to 10pm.

The event aims to draw audiences beyond the George Town city centre, bringing arts and culture closer to suburban communities. This marks the fourth time GTF has come to Air Itam since the festival’s inception in 2010, with organisers expecting between 800 and 1,000 attendees.

“We want to let people outside George Town experience the same GTF excitement without needing to travel into the city. It’s about bringing culture to their doorstep and letting them soak in the atmosphere,” said Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng.

The upcoming event is set to attract people to Air Itam.

Ng said ‘Bedtime Stories’ is designed to provide children with a creative storytelling experience, along with interactive activities for families and visitors.

“The programme will feature a talent show, a bedtime storytelling session in the basketball court area, and a reptile showcase especially for children.

“One of the highlights is a drumming performance featuring 50 to 60 drums, which is sure to energise the crowd,” he added.

Other activities include an origami workshop and theatre-style talent show performances.

Parking spaces are available in the surrounding neighbourhood, with additional parking provided at SJK (C) Sin Kang.

Also present was GTF director Jack Wong.
