Jagdeep reminds public to remain vigilant against Covid-19

THE Penang government has once again reminded the people to not let their guard down amid the continuous rise in Covid-19 cases in the state and country.

State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said the Penang government would continue in its efforts to contain further spread of Covid-19 infections in the state.

“Penang currently has four clusters, which show that the Covid-19 pandemic is moving at a rapid pace lately, and that also mean we have to continuously play our part to curb further spread of the infections.

“When we identify a cluster, the most important thing is for us to take action. We have to do our best through various efforts in order to contain it,” said Jagdeep during a press conference in the Penang Remand Prison compound today.

Jagdeep also said one way to ensure we contain further spread is by conducting Covid-19 tests on related individuals.

“As of Oct 30, a total of 2,964 prisoners from Penang Remand Prison and 3,812 prisoners from Seberang Jaya have undergone Covid-19 tests successfully.

“Meanwhile, the Bayan and Alma clusters have seen 1,036 and 724 individuals respectively undergone the test,” Jagdeep added.

On a separate matter, Jagdeep said as of Oct 29, the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) have recorded compliance rates of 99.68% and 99.34% respectively.

The rates were based on 397,519 and 623,068 checks conducted by MBPP and MBSP respectively in various public areas such as public markets, food complexes and other facilities under the supervisors of both local councils.

Also present during the press conference was Jelutong Member of Parliament R.S.N. Rayer.
