Let us cherish unity, says CM Chow

UNITY amongst the people must not be taken for granted.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said this at the launch of the tanglung lights at Bukit Dumbar Recreation Park in Jelutong today.

“The spirit of unity is very important. Don’t take it for granted because when we lose this unity, we lose tolerance. And all sorts of bad things may happen in our country.

“So, I urge all to value unity that has been forged since Merdeka,” Chow said in his speech.

The event, hosted by Jelutong MP R.S.N. Rayer for the second year, was also attended by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, Senator Lim Hui Ying, Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim and Batu Lancang assemblyman Ong Ah Teong.

Chow said with the setting up of lanterns, one could feel the festive mood as the Chinese community looks forward to family reunions.

He added that celebrations like Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Deepavali, Gawai and Kaamatan as well as open houses enable us to support one another as friends and forge a spirit of unity in this country.

Guan Eng said he was delighted to attend the event again.

“This is our first night park in Penang and in Malaysia. We want to encourage people who are busy during the day to come and enjoy the park.

“I think this was a good idea because we can see many people enjoying themselves in this recreational park.

“And I have been told that new lights have also been added on by the PBA (Penang Water Supply Corporation). So, we want to thank PBA for that.”
